About Me

written by Francisco Sayan

My name is Francisco Sayan, I am a high school senior in Arlington, TX who has been hooked on Linux ever since I installed my first distro in my tiny little pentium III T-21 thinkpad. After graduation I plan to attend the University of Texas at Arlington. I was born in Lima, Peru and lived there until i was 11 years old, then I moved to USA and i got to say i love it here :)

I have tinkered with Linux for about 2 years now. I would download live cds and play with them on my parents computer, I never really was able to do much this way though, to get to the truly good stuff in Linux, i needed a computer to install it in. Last year I got the money together to build my own computer, originally it was roughly this

  • 2x AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor 6000+
  • 2 GB Ram
  • Radeon 9250 Video Card
  • one CD/RW drive
  • 300 gb SATA drive
  • M2R32-SLI motherboard

Over the past year, this has changed to this

Processor 2x AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor6000+
Memory 2063MB
Operating System Debian GNU/Linux lenny/sid
User Name francisco (Francisco Sayan)
Hard Drive 300GB Sata
IDE Disks HITACHI DVD-ROM GD-5000DVD R/RW with Lightscribe
Hard Drive 300GB Sata
Kernel Linux 2.6.28-9-amd64 (x86_64)
Computer Name Lillian
Distribution Debian GNU/Linux lenny/sid

Originally I had a 100GB windows XP partition, remnants of my windows user past, full of the junk that usually collects on windows systems, and slowly I have cleaned it up and found stuff to delete to bring it down to a 23GBs in a 25GB partition.(edit, after uninstalling 2 games that i haven’t even thought about in months, i brought it down to 13GB’s, but the partition is still 25GB)

I have gone through a lot of different distros, ubuntu, open suse, fedora, slackware, and several of their offshoots like slax or kubuntu, but I think I have finally found my perfect distro, Debian, and will probably stay with it. I will soon make reviews of my opinions on other distros and why I liked or disliked them.

The thing about me is…

I have a very bad habit.

I often times experiment with things I shouldn’t. i’ll dont like to wait until stable software comes out. I’ll install whatever kind of new unstable program piques my interest and try it on a partition i’ve set aside just for these sort of situations.

I also constantly try different distro’s. Anyways I have decided that it would be much easier for me to keep track of everything I usually do when I reinstall different distros or what steps I steps I take when I reinstall programs.

Thats what this blog is for.
